Happy New Year, my friends! I hope you have enjoyed the holiday season, and are filled with a sense of gratitude as I am while I sit here writing to you today.
Just five years ago I accidentally stumbled into this TpT world via a Facebook group, as a parenting and lifestyle blogger. Posts from my teaching life had been taking over A Vision For Our Kids, so I opened That Fun Reading Teacher as a side blog. I had started to feel unworthy of the upbeat, idealistic family blog I had started just a few years before. I was grieving many losses, and was very worried about where my kids and I would be living for their high school years.
I am so very grateful to say that we are still in our home, and my youngest has a year and half left of high school. I am filled with happy memories we’ve all had here. Their friends have been coming and going all week and the house has been filled with laughter, music and the sound of the videos they have playing on their phones. Snap chat, I believe.
What is a happy memory for you from last year?
It’s a great discussion to have with your students. Here’s a fun freebie for your class:
Goals for the year ahead:
I love talking to young kids about their plans for the future. My four-year-old niece is constantly spinning around with plans to be a ballerina. I’ve had students who aspire to be Spiderman. I love the optimism, hope and belief that anything is possible that fuels kids, allowing them to fill their own buckets, so to speak, and helping to fill ours.
My goal for the next year is to contribute more to the growth mindset / wellness / bucket-filling cycle. I will write more about it in upcoming posts, but as a teaser, will tell you this: I am learning every day. I am rebuilding my life. I believe in this community of teachers supporting teachers. I believe in the power of gratitude, and on that note, please know how grateful I am for your business, your following, all I have learned from your wonderful feedback, likes, shares and comments that has allowed me to continue doing what I love.
