Have you heard of ABCya.com? Used in schools across Canada and the U.S., it stands up to its tagline ‘The Leader in Educational Computer Games for Kids‘. The site is free, the activities focus on skills and was developed by an educator. ABCya.com would not warrant mention here if it did not meet the ‘That Fun Reading Teacher‘ learning through fun criteria!
My students enjoy ABCya on our school computers, and I have selected two popular (and, of course, effective!) games to share with you today from each of these two areas: letters, and games. The descriptions beside each are direct quotes from the site.
|“Select a Dolch Word List and listen to the word the dragon speaks. Click and drag the letters to spell the word correctly. Press ‘hint” to see how the word is spelled or press “skip” to go to another word…*Headphones or speakers are required for this activity.” ~ABCya.com Recommended for Grades: K,1,2,3|
ABCya.com has a growing collection of online games in a variety of subject areas. To read about their success and learn about more of their resources, please visit their website and (and tell them That Fun Reading Teacher sent you!)
